UrTrees is a citizen science project available as a website and app that facilitates the recording, mapping, creation of 3D models and measuring of trees.
The information that is uploaded to UrTrees (i.e., tree data) may be shared with other organisations and used to support further research.
UrTrees is provided by the University of Strasbourg (Unistra) in partnership with the CNRS and The Open University (OU). The UrTrees website and app are hosted by Unistra. In these Terms of Use, when it says 'we' or 'us', it means Unistra, a French public university; and with its address at 14 Rue René Descartes, 67084 Strasbourg CEDEX, France.

We provide UrTrees as a citizen science project to facilitate the measuring of trees and to help research. It is not provided for commercial use. As a result:
While we try to make sure that UrTrees is accurate, up-to-date and free from bugs, we cannot promise that it will be. Furthermore, we cannot promise that UrTrees will be fit or suitable for any purpose. Any reliance that you may place on the information on UrTrees is at your own risk.
We may suspend or terminate operation of UrTrees at any time as we see fit. While we try to make sure that UrTrees is available for your use, we do not promise that UrTrees will be available at all times nor do we promise uninterrupted service or use by you of UrTrees.
We provide UrTrees as a citizen science project. UrTrees may only be used for your own personal and non-commercial purposes.

We do not gain ownership of any of the videos and images that you provide to UrTrees. Any 3D model created from the videos that you provide is owned by UrTrees. In the spirit of the citizen science project that UrTrees is, the 3D model is freely available for anyone to use on the basis of a Creative Commons licence. The specific licence that UrTrees uses is CC BY-NC 4.0.
When you use UrTrees, you create and upload content (videos and photos of trees) to the UrTrees website or the app. By putting this content on UrTrees, you are saying that:
Videos and photos of all trees are very welcome on UrTrees provided that they have been taken and provided in accordance with local legislation. Please note:
Copyright in the videos and images remains with the author, however videos and images uploaded to the site may be used to operate UrTrees, to support our research and to develop measurement, recognition and identification software and systems.
In legal terms, by providing your videos and images to UrTrees:
If the content, record and observations uploaded to the site are to be valuable tree records they need to be accurate and available over the long term. This is why we use the CC BY-NC 4.0 licence for the 3D models and why we obtain from you an irrevocable licence to use videos and images. If you need to revise or remove videos or images that you have submitted, please contact us at urtrees@icube.unistra.fr.
